Various Companies Offer Festival Tours To Lively King's Day Celebrations in Amsterdam

Kings Day in Amsterdam
By FOMO Girl
Late April is a great time to visit Amsterdam, the Netherlands' capital, since this is when their annual King's Day celebration takes place. Originally known as Queen's Day, when the reigning monarch was female, this exciting holiday is normally held between April 25-27th and is celebrated with a citywide street party. Visitors will find several tour companies offering festivals travel tours that will provide them with a memorable experience of this dutch holiday.

This local tradition began in August 1885 to honor the birth of Queen Wilhelmina, and continued as an annual event after her daughter, Juliana, and grand-daughter, Beatrix succeeded her, only the date was changed to April. In 2014, the name of this holiday was officially changed to King's Day, as a male monarch, King Willem-Alexander took over the throne.

Even though the name of this holiday has changed, it still maintains the same festive spirit, with both locals and visitors to the city dressed fully in orange, the color that symbolizes the royal family of the Netherlands, the House of Orange-Nassau. The royals themselves take part in the celebration by visiting a different town or city each year.

The entire city of Amsterdam becomes a giant flea market at this time, with people setting up tables throughout the streets and parks where they can sell pretty much anything new or used. There are also tons of food stalls offering a wide selection of tasty things to eat, with pubs packed with lively folks, and music fills the air from bands and DJs playing their tunes. Families with kids can enjoy sporting events, face-painting, street buskers, and much more.

Although it is considered a public holiday, King's Day is by no means a day of rest. The festivities kick off the night before the big day, and continue through until the next day. The party isn't limited to the streets and parks alone, but it also takes place on the water, as colorfully, decorated boats line the waterways of the Amsterdam canal system. Spectators, who aren't on the boats, typically line up along the bridges just to watch.

Privilege, Space, Amnesia, Pacha, and other well-known clubs attract throngs of visitors with performances by the world's most popular producers and DJs. Many electronic dance masters choose this atmosphere to launch their newest creations in the techno, trance, and house music genres.

Opening parties for the season typically take place at the end of May, while closing parties are held during the first weekend in October. The island is known for its tolerance of provocative behavior by its tourists, which makes it a popular place for young singles and couples who have a desire to take a walk on the wild side. Explore The Options For Halloween Travel In Transylvania

Halloween in Transylvania
By FOMO Girl
People in many countries around the world believe that All Hallow's Eve (Halloween) is the one night a year when the living and the dead come together as the veil temporarily drops between their two worlds. Dressing up in costume, trick-or-treating, exploring haunted houses, and other spooky activities are among the most popular past times on the final day of October. Adventure seekers who want to take their celebration to another level can consider Halloween travel to Transylvania, the setting for Bram Stoker's classic vampire story, Dracula.

Many historians believe the folk beliefs of people living in Celtic-speaking countries had the greatest influence on many of today's most popular modern customs. Many link it to a festival known as Samhain, which marks the end of summer and was celebrated in Scotland and Ireland. Traditions include setting a place for dead relatives to invite them home, performing rituals to divine the future, and lighting bonfires to hold off the coming winter.

The ancient tradition of wearing animal pelts to escape detection by the dead as they walked among the living evolved into donning elaborate costumes. Popular modern designs include vampires, werewolves, witches, and other scary creatures, though some adults now opt for funny or sexy costumes on this one night when they can drop their inhibitions and be anything they want to be.

Transylvania is in Romania at the foot of the Carpathian mountains. Vlad the Impaler belonged to the House of Darculesti and ruled the region during the mid-1500s. Also known as Dracula, his name inspired Bram Stoker to call the main character in his 1897 novel Count Dracula.

Visitors to this region for Halloween will find a more authentic and less commercialized observance of this season than is typically seen in the United States. Guests travel back through time as they make their way through winding streets of quaint historic villages. Exploration of Gothic castles and Saxon citadels offer unique vistas and the opportunity to delve deeper into the region's history and culture.

Many tour operators offer package deals for travelers who want to experience this charming yet mysterious region of the world. Some focus on the spooky aspects of the region, especially its ties to Stoker's Dracula. Others highlight the culture and traditions of the area with wine tasting adventures, Romanian folklore presentations and castle tours.

It's messy yes, but is lots of fun. Crowds increase with whopping numbers year after year. People from all over the world make a journey to Bunol to join in for the thrill of a lifetime and the excitement.

It is still hard to believe this is a recognized event that thousands of visitors and locals flock to. It all began with a small group of kids who were in the town square watching a parade. Being a little mischievous, the spontaneous kids tried to join the parade of puppets and musicians to become a part of the exhibits as if they were participants. This caused a reaction for the actual parade participants who started throwing things. Eventually, this ruckus caused such a commotion the crowd got involved and grabbed vegetables from a vendor stand nearby hurling the tomatoes at everyone.

This has turned into a nationwide event where many flock to experience getting all juiced up and to join in on the roars of laughter. There is no mercy and no way to duck the vegetable being hurled. Think about jumping in a pool of salsa. There is no way to stay clean in these parts but the crowds find it most enjoyable and relaxing.

There are plenty of activities during the week that lead up to the main throwing event. There are extravagant fiestas. Firework displays can be viewed and is entertaining. There are a variety of parties and tables offering exquisite food from area establishments.

La Batalla Del Vino Tours Offer Memorable But Messy Fun

La Batalla Del Vino
By FOMO Girl
Those who are fascinated by traditions, love wine, and don't mind getting a little, or rather a lot, messy, may want to visit the town of Haro, Spain in late June for La Batalla del Vino.  Also known as the "wine battle", the La Batalla del Vino offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience, which both locals and visitors on exciting La Batalla del Vino tours partake in the rowdy merriment of dousing each other in wine at the top of a mountain, which was once the home of St. Peter, the 6th century patron saint of Haro.

The events of this lively festival start on 28 June each year, and then later that evening the preparations for the big battle, which is the high point of the entire celebration, begin. A huge party lights up the streets, town square and bars of Haro, with all townspeople, from the youngest to the oldest, out to enjoy the festivities.

Party-goers can partake in the dancing, singing and celebrating until dawn and then begin the journey to the mountain, located approximately 5 kilometers away from the town. It's usually necessary to reach the mountain on foot, as police may very well close the road off to cars, making it accessible to pedestrians alone.

Firstly, a traditional mass is held in honor of St Peter, and then it's time for the real action to take place. Participants customarily dress entirely in white and tie red handkerchiefs around their necks, and bring a wide assortment of objects containing red wine, such as water guns, buckets, bottles and wine skins.  Literally everyone there becomes drenched in wine from head to toe, nobody is merely a bystander. Bands play music and the wine-soaked revelers dance along.

The fun is not over at this point however, the wine battle may have finished for another year, but a feast will be held later in the day.  As the purple-colored folks make their way back to Haro, the battle continues for several hours.  Others who prefer less messy activities may rather sit at tables in local cafes enjoying a drink or two.

The Europe freestyle tour group, Busabout, offers travelers who wish to partake in this unique event a package that provides transportation from San Sebastian or Pamplona on 28 June and return on 30 June. Travelers are given tent accommodation, two breakfast meal and a t-shirt for this amazing La Batallas Del Vino trip.  There will also take you to see the fireworks display and give you a bar crawl tour of the town.

Another travel company that is proud to offer its customers the ability to attend the La Batalla Del Vino Festival is Stoke Travel. Their buses leave San Sebastian and Barcelona for Haro on 28 June and return on 30 June also.  The Stoke Travel La Batalla Del Vino Tour covers twin share tent accommodations, including mattresses, delicious hot breakfasts, a BBQ dinner, campsite party, and the usual Stoke Travel Fun Guides.

Anyone who plans to attend this messy but exciting celebration should wear white, as this is the tradition, but nothing that is valuable or irreplaceable since it will end up stained dreadfully. Taking a change of clothes and an old towel for after the battle is also a good idea as it can be rather uncomfortable in the cool morning air if you’re saturated with wine. Something to squirt or pour wine from and some plastic garbage bags for wet clothing or to protect vehicle seats if driving are also recommended.

FOMO Travel have plenty of information on heaps of other festivals in Spain, including this fabulous wine fight known as La Batalla Del Vino.
