SPRING BREAK
INTERNATIONAL DESTINATIONS

Spreak Break in Mexico

If you are planning to go to Mexico, the US State Department has issued a Travel Advisory for Mexico that has some Travel Tips for Spring Break.

Top Tips for Mexico
If you are looking for the biggest parties, the hottest clubs and the most high profile events, check to see where the tour operators are hosting their nightly parties, there will be more people at those clubs. Dress codes are enforced in the clubs at night.

Use the local bus system to get around - it only costs around 5 pesos (50 cents US) and buses run in both directions so there is never too long of a wait.  The bus is an excellent way to meet other people on Spring Break.  There is no point in wasting money on a taxi when the bus system is fast, safe so inexpensive.  They run 24 hour a day.

Don't Rent Mopeds - they are dangerous and if you damage a moped the damage charges will be payable in cash prior to your departure. Even if there is no aparent damage you still may end up paying.

If you want to save money and time, get a party card from one of the tour operators, you will save money on cover charges, maybe some on drinks, plus you get into the clubs and bars faster without having to wait in line to pay cover charges.

Do not urinate in public - it sounds silly but it is taken very seriously in Mexico, especially in tourist areas - you will get in more serious trouble with the authorities than you would expect.

Stick to bottled water and drinks.

Spring Break Cancun

Like Vegas, whatever happens in Cancun, stays in Cancun, so we don't have to tell you how crazy it can get.  Cancun is a gorgeous paradise that has grown in popularity to become the top international Spring Break destination.

The major Spring Break tour operators have party programs that include theme nights at the different clubs with express entry and open bar. These are the best parties, where huge crowds gather and the dancing gets intense.

Most of the time , especially during the day, Cancun Spring Break Headquarters is around Fat Tuesday, which was featured in the movie, "The Real Cancun". The movie showed the world just how wild Spring Break is in Cancun.  Using a reliable tour operator can help to make sure that everyone has a great time.  There are many hotels that have special deals for Spring Break.  For the independent travellers, many of the hotels also take bookings directly.  In order to get the most competitive prices use our Accommodation booking engines to find the best places for the best prices that suits your needs.

Activities
Some people are happy to do nothing more during Spring Break than enjoy the beaches, soaking up the sun after a long winter, frequenting beachside bars and pool-side parties.   Others may choose to take a day trip to the ancient Mayan ruins at Tulum or the Temple of Kukulcan at Chichen Itza, or take a cruise from Cancun to the island of Cozumel. The Great Mesoamerican Reef also offers exceptional snorkeling opportunities for those who don't want to go too deep. In Puerto Morelos (23 miles south of Cancun) this reef hugs the coastline for 9 miles. It is second largest coral reef in the world. Go snorkeling or scuba diving and explore the largest dive site in the Western Hemisphere.

No matter how lazy or active you are during the day, nighttime is when Cancun really comes to life. The clubs, like La Boom, Senor Frogs, Carlos n Charlies, Dady'O and Coco Bongo have incredible light shows and energetic dance floors. The clubs will offer drink specials as well as contests and stage shows to keep the party going all night. Stay in one club all-night or go club hopping. The party doesn't stop until the last person leaves!

Spring Break Acapulco

Days in Acapulco are meant for recovering from the nights. Whatever methods of recovery and relaxation you decide upon are up to you. The beaches here are endless. You just can't beat a lazy day on the beach enjoying the breeze, the surf and the sun while keeping your cool with a tall tropical drink.

Once you have recovered, there are many daytime tourist activities to keep you busy.  If you are into exploring, there is the historic fort Fuerte de San Diego. Built in the 1600's to defend against raiding pirates, the fort has been refurbished and converted into a historical museum.

For the aficionados of bullfighting, Acapulco boasts the second largest arena in Mexico. The Acapulco bullfighting ring is a smaller version of the one in Mexico City, but its crowd is just as colorful. Bullfights start at about 5:30pm.

You can also check out the world-famous divers of La Quebrada dive 136 feet from the rocky cliffs into crashing surf below.  You may have seen them on TV or in the movies.

The city is home to clubs that are among the most impressive in the world. Palladium is the largest and the most popular, with a dance floor surrounded by a panoramic view of Acapulco Bay from the cliffs. Mandara is the height of elegance and there's is also Baby'O, the club that started it all.  Alebrije, arguably the local favorite, and Disco Beach, located directly on the beach and home of the famous foam parties. You can go club hopping on your own, but if you want to avoid the long lines and cover charges, it is a good idea to purchase a party package offered by one of the tour operators.

Like any large resort destination, there are specific properties that cater to Spring Breakers. In Acapulco, the Spring Break area stretches from Condesa Beach to the Hyatt Hotel. The LaPalpa Hotel features the most popular daytime pool parties with live music and contests. There are also many inexpensive restaurants and shops in this area.

Spring Break in Jamaica

Top Tips for Jamaica
The official currency of Jamaica is the Jamaican Dollar. The currency exchange rate in Jamaica fluctuates between 36 and 40 Jamaican Dollars to 1 US Dollar.  It is best not to exchange money at the airport. The best exchange rates tend to be at the Cambio’s (located at various spots throughout Montego Bay and Negril), banks or hotels.  Do not exchange all of your money when you get to Jamaica. It’s best to exchange it as needed as you will lose money converting Jamaican Dollars back to US Dollars when you depart Jamaica.

Unlike some Spring Break destinations there is no dress code in Jamaica. Shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops will work just fine 24 X 7.

Local transporation is by taxi. Only the taxis with red licence tags with white numbers have been approved by Jamaican Tourist Board and also have the required insurance. Remember to always agree on a price in Jamaican Dollars before getting into the cab. A cab ride from the Cliffs to the Beach will cost about $100 Jamaican (around $2 USD) per person. Better prices can be negotiated with large groups. Remember to stick with the buddy system and do not ride alone.

Spring Break Montego Bay

Montego Bay is famous for its crystal clear water and constant temperature of between 78 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit or 22 to 28 Celsius.  Mo-Bay, as the locals call it, is considered to be the capital of Spring Break in Jamaica. A section of Montego Bay, owned by a Dr Alexander McCatty, was donated to the town for development as a bathing club in 1906. The water at that time was accessible only by descending through a small cave and was given the name the "Doctor's Cave".  Today, the cave is gone, but you can still restore your health and vitality at Doctor's Cave Beach, or at one of the other two beaches Cornwall,or Aqua Sol. All three beaches are all located along Gloucester Avenue, better known as the Hip Strip. Hotels, restaurants, shops and a newly rebuilt Coral Cliff Casino, as well as the major clubs are all located along this strip.

If you want to skip the long lines and save money on cover fees, make sure you purchase a "Platinum Party Pass" from one of the tour operators. Doctors Cave Hotel and Margaritaville will knock your sandals off with crazy theme parties, contests and giveaways.  Dance, dance, dance and when the sun comes up, hang by the pool, soak up the rays and enjoy the contests at Doctor's Cave Hotel, cruise down the winding water slide at Margaritaville or climb the 600-foot cascading waterfall of Dunn's River Falls.

The island is a popular destination and Spring Break travel packages are offered by many Spring Break tour operators.  Some of the tour operators still have availability for 2014 Spring Break.

Spring Break Negril

Negril offers an unspoiled 7 mile stretch of white sand beaches crowned by the low lying cliffs of the West End. In the quest of an endless summer and awesome sunsets, this once sleepy little fishing village was discovered by hippies during the 1960's.

Today, tour operators offer attractive travel packages to this Spring Break dream destination. There are many hotels that have special deals for Spring Break.  For the independent travellers, many of the hotels also take bookings directly.  In order to get the most competitive prices use our accommodation booking engines to find the best places for the best prices that suits your needs.  There are some 20-30 small hotels and/or luxury properties that offer beachside lodging. The most desirable places to stay are the small cliff-side inns or the larger beachfront hotels that have the most amenities. However, you may find that it is a good idea to take a good look at your hotel before booking. There are also several private villas that you can rent by the week if money is no problem.

Once you have arrived at your hotel, you can relax on the beach, or go on an island adventure climbing one of the many waterfalls or jumping from the 45 foot cliffs at the Pickled Parrot. Water sports activities abound and if you are into sailing, you can go windsurfing, sunfish sailing, or take a daylong sailing trip to Bloody Bay where you'll enjoy basking in the sun, snorkeling, and partying on your own private beach. Ocean Kayaking and Jungle River Tubing is also worth doing.  Negril is a clothing optional beach dotted with small beachfront hotels, thatched roof bars and restaurants overlooking the water.

As the day come to an end, celebrate the famous Negril sunset with a rum punch and get ready to party. Or if you want to make it an evening event go for a sunset cruise along Negril's scenic cliffs for a phenomenal view of the setting sun.

After the sun sets, it is time to party as Negril's beaches and cliffs come alive with the sounds of reggae music. If you want to avoid the lines and save on cover fees, make sure that you get a "Platinum Party Passport" and voucher from one of the tour operators. On Monday night, Hotel Samsara's concerts feature the likes of Ziggy Marley, Beannie Man, Shaggy and more.  Theme parties at Legends Beach Bar, Coral Seas Beach and Margaritaville light up the beach. It is crackling bonfires and pulsating rhythm of reggae music that creates that special Jamaican feeling. This is why people come back to Negril again and again.

Spreak Break in the Bahamas

Top Tips for The Bahamas
The official language of The Bahamas is the Kings English, which is more British than American, and generally intertwined with a special Bahamian dialect.

The currency is the Bahamian Dollar and is equivalent in value to the US Dollar (only in the Bahamas). There is no need to exchange money in the Bahamas, spend either US or Bahamian Dollars the same way, just be sure to spend any Bahamian Dollars before you leave, otherwise they become souvenirs. Take enough money to spend each time you go out, and leave the rest in the safe.

Most shops and restaurants accept all major credit cards. You may want to notify your credit card company in advance to be sure you are set up to access your card outside of the country. ATM machines can be found in the casinos and at major banks in Nassau. Most bank cards with Cirrus or Visa/MasterCard status can be used.  Check with your bank before you leave to be sure.

Dress during the day is casual and night too, unless you decide to dress up a little nicer at night for the clubs.  There are no restrictions other than a cover-up for swimwear when leaving the beach or pool areas.

You will find that food is moderately priced as in any resort area. It does need to be flown over from the US, so it is a little bit more expensive than usual. Fast food like Burger King, Subway, Wendy's and KFC are available and are not that much more than what you would find in the States. Sit-down restaurants can be expensive depending on where you go and what you order.

A favourite for Spring Break, the beautiful islands of the Bahamas offer long, luxurious days in the sun, and wild nights in the hottest clubs.

Whether you're looking for a vacation packed with activities, or to lay around on the beach most of the time, The Bahamas offers both private serenity and plenty of action. A Spring Break 2013 vacation here is whatever you want to make of it.

Spring Break Grand Bahama Island

Grand Bahama is an island paradise conveniently located less than 100 miles from Miami. It is this close proximity to the United States that has stimulated the development of the island's many resorts and casinos. The island is well known for its reef-protected shoreline with its many cays and white-sand beaches.  A couple of the Spring Break tour operators book most of the available space on the cruiseship Discovery, which provides transportation to the island daily, and thus they handle alot of the available rooms during the season.  However there are many hotels that have special deals for Spring Break.  For the independent travellers, many of the hotels also take bookings directly.  In order to get the most competitive prices use our accommodation booking engines to find the best places for the best prices that suits your needs.

The main beaches on Grand Bahama Island are Lucaya Beach, Xanadu Beach and Taino Beach, which are adjacent to the hotels and resorts.  They provide activites like parasailing, snorkeling, and windsurfing, but the island also has many secluded beaches to be found by adventurous Spring Breakers. The recommended mode of transportation is by moped or scooters, which can be rented by the day or half-day.  One of the most spectacular stretches of beach is Gold Rock Beach on the eastern end of the island. It is part of the 40 acre Lucayan National Park, which is also known for its many caves and is only one of the many eco-tourism sites on the eastern end of the island.

Scuba training is available and they offer snorkling and dive packages for individuals and groups. If you want to expore the Grand Bahama's underwater life, but don't want to get your feet wet, The Mermaid Kitty (said to be the world's largest glass bottom boat) has daily sightseeing tours.

Most tourists also find their way to the many shops on the island. While you are down near the dock, you will also find the Port Lucaya Marketplace and Marina with its upscale shopping, dining, and amusement center. Adjacent to the casino, you will find the International Bazaar and the Straw Market. The International Bazaar has several shops and boutiques and with products from a variety of countries. There is also the Straw Market with hats, mats, and baskets, and other local trinkets to be found in shops around the island.

Freeport/Lucaya would not qualify as a Spring Break destination if it didn't have an abundent supply of nightime activities. In addition to the hotel bars, the Port Lucaya Marketplace has over a half a dozen different bars and pubs to explore. You will also want to check out the music in Count Basie Square. There is an ample supply of nitespots, where you can get a taste of the local sounds, find several discos where you can dance almost 'til dawn, and visit two casinos with virtually non-stop action. And you can always find a beachside bar, where you can toss back Bahama Mamas and enjoy the moonlight beach.

Spring Break Nassau

If it's the pirate's life for you, Nassau is the place. Once inhabited by such notables as Blackbeard, Calico Jack and Mary Reed, Nassau still provides a safe haven for those seeking to escape from despotic academicians.

Not much is left of the later day pirates, or gun smugglers, who ran arms for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. The only historical landmark was the Royal Victoria Hotel. Once the "showplace of the Bahamas" and headquarters for the Bahamian smugglers, the hotel survived until 1971 when it burned to the ground. Today, only the gardens of the hotel remain to reflect the opulence and grandeur of this period of Bahamain history.

When you arrive on the island, you will discover quickly that there are two different types of beaches. The first is the "activity beach", which are adjacent to the luxury hotels, resorts and casinos.  They offer every water sport that you can think of, like parasailing, snorkeling, windsurfing, and the like. The second type of beach is refered to as the "secluded beach".  These secluded beaches are like sparkling treasures to be discovered by adventerious Spring Breakers of the Carribean.

When you get tired of exploring the beaches and gardens, take a day cruise to Blue Lagoon Island where you can snorkel with stingrays and swim with a pod of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins at the Dolphin Encounter.  Scuba training, snorkling, and dive packages for individuals and groups are popular and available from any one of Nassau's many dive operators. If you want to expore Nassau's underwater life, but don't want to get your feet wet, you can visit the underwater observatory of the Coral Island marine park or go for a 2-1/2 hour ride on the submarine Atlantis.

Don't forget to visit downtown Nassau, with its winding streets of pastel buildings.  It offers great deals on shopping-souvenirs, straw markets, jewelry, liquor, and perfume. Beyond the town of Nassau is the bridge to the island of Paradise, which has been transformed into one of the most glamorous resort centers in the world. Spend a day luxuriating in the exclusive pleasures at The Atlantis, the island's super exclusive resort, casino, and waterpark. Remember, if you get tired of all the tourist stuff, you can just spend the day in a hammock strung between a couple palm trees.

During the day, take the bus as they are cheap and reliable, but they only run between 7am-7pm. The cost is $1.00 each way.  At night you will have to use taxis to get to the clubs. Most taxis are large vans that can accommodate up to 12 people. The drivers typically do not use the meters so it is a good idea to negotiate the price of the trip before getting in.  A full taxi costs an average of $2 to $4 per person one-way.  When returning to Paradise Island from Nassau, there is a $2 bridge toll that passengers are responsible for paying.

The nightclubs don't really get started until after 11pm, so pass the early evening hours recovering from your day on the beach in the cool casinos and then hit the clubs. The are both a "Gold and a Platinum Party Pass" available depending on how much you want to spend. The two casinos are the Crystal Palace at the Marriott in Cable Beach and The Atlantis on Paradise Island. The two main clubs to hit in Nassau are The Zoo and The Waterloo, which are both huge with a maze of different rooms.  It is a good idea to go on the featured nights when the major tour operators have scheduled events to avoid heavy cover charges and lines.

Bay Street in Nassau is world famous for its shopping: jewelry, liquor, clothes, crystal, tobacco, you name it. Be sure to visit the local craft market, also located on Bay St., but remember to haggle for a good price.
